Darkness at Noon by Arthur Koestler

This novel about the Soviet show trials of the thirties is a good reminder of how the Stalinist system crushed the individual. The Soviet Union may be no more (at this writing) but the same impulses to control are alive and well in the heart of man. Read and remember.

A potsherd, of course, is a piece of broken pottery and is used as a simile in the Bible.
