As you know, because you are savvy and read Milton Friedman, “free” actually means “someone besides you pays.” So this site costs time and money, and I am paying some opportunity costs to maintain and contribute to it. Therefore I would like this site to contribute back to me. The way one can achieve this is to accept ads, which I plan to do should someone ever actually want to pay me to advertise on the site, and through affiliate advertising, which I am now doing.
Poor Potsherd is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.
This means when a reader clicks a link and buys something, I get a small commission for sending you to the site where you presumably made a purchase in order to help support this ongoing and oh, so crucial work. I doubt that the compensation will amount to much, and I will eventually have to get a real job. But meanwhile, I am Pursuing My Dream, or something like that.
I expect to be honest and only recommend those things that I truly believe to be valuable. I also intend to be honest if I don’t care for something, even though I may still provide a link to the site supplying the item. You will at least know what my true feelings about the item are.
See my posts on how you can create a site to share your knowledge and use advertising to pay some of the costs of the site.
