Hillsdale College Dialogues

You have probably heard of Hillsdale College. but you may not know about the host of resources they provide for the aspiring Christian intellectual, which of course, you are. The resource I want to tell you about today is called Hillsdale Dialogues. which are interviews by Hugh Hewett with either Larry Arnn, president of Hillsdale College, or one of the Hillsdale professors. These interviews are available for free. These are online discussions about great books and the list of books discussed is impressive (and they are adding more each year). Here is a partial list of some of the topics:

  • Lincoln-Douglas Debates
  • Federalist Papers
  • Shakespeare
  • Hobbes
  • Locke
  • Adam Smith
  • Dante
  • Thomas Aquinas
  • Homer
  • The Bible

Yes, some of those topics look intimidating but what better way to introduce your student (and yourself) to these great thinkers than to listen to knowledgeable people discuss them. They run in about 30 minute snippets, so download one and listen to it the next time you are commuting to piano lessons or work or wherever.

A potsherd, of course, is a piece of broken pottery and is used as a simile in the Bible.
It is also found in this hopeful poem by G. M. Hopkins.
